Birth Stories

Everyone has a different story about their births and never are 2 the same.

My 3 births were different, especially my last.

Here’s my stories:

**Trigger warning**

My first 2 births to my gorgeous boys, were very straight forward. I was in and out all in the same day and they were heavenly.

My little girl however decided that wasn’t for her.

My whole pregnancy with Lillie was normal and perfect for the most of it. I had a little spotting at 10 weeks, so we had an early scan to make sure everything was ok. Then later on between 23-30 weeks I had a routine appointment and my bump was measuring a tad small, so had an additional scan to check her measurements and she was the right size for the amount of weeks I was at the time.

I was 10 days over my due date when I started getting some back ache. The day in question I did my normal day to day stuff and even did the school & nursery pick up as I felt fine, but when I got home at 6pm from fetching the boys, my contractions came out of no where and were every 3 minutes. I rang the hospital and they said there were closed due to being full to capacity and want me to go to another hospital 1 & 1/2 away. Which I said I was never going to make.

So they did decide I could over and they would assess me.

Once there, I waiting until about 7.45 before they they put me on the monitor and didn’t like Lillie’s heart rate so fetched the doctor who examined me and broke my water at the same time, to find that baby had had a poo. So as I was only 4cm, I had to have an emergency C-Section, 1> because her heart rate was dipping very low and 2> because of the poo.

Once in theatre, everything was very quick and before id realised she was out at 8.45pm and they were then working on me as I had lost some blood so need to stabilise me.

Once back on the ward, My midwife told me that Lillie had a “True Knot” in her cord, which she showed me. It’s a knot they create themselves while moving around in the womb. Normally when the cord is cut the knot bounces free but in our case the knot was so tight it didn’t and that was what was coursing her heart rate to dip as low as it did and we are very lucky she is here.

Lillie couldn’t keep her temperature up, so a peds doctor had to be called and they made the decision to take her up to the NICU. At this point, I hadn’t even held her as I was too weak still, so when they transferred me from the labour ward to the Maternity ward, we called in there on the way (around 4 in the morning) and I finally got my first cuddle. Lillie was being treated from suspected sepsis, so was on a antibiotic drip which she had to be given at set times every day and she wasn’t keeping her milk down, so that needed to be monitored too. So for 5 days she’s was up and down from the NICU to me on the Maternity ward.

While all this was happening, when my catheter was being remove a section broke off inside so I had to go back to surgery to have that taken out!

I was so happy when they said we could finally go home, the whole experience was something I never thought I would have to go through. But all worked out in the end.

I have got to say the care and support I received at Pilgrims Boston Hospital, was absolutely amazing, I had all my 3 there and wouldn’t have gone anywhere else. I couldn’t of asked for anything better from the Midwives, to the doctors and especially to the NICU nurses who took care of Lillie and myself.
